Exercise is said to be the best way to lose the most weight. This would mean that a person burns more calories in one hour than they would for the next 23. In actuality exercise is the stimulus the body requires to improve metabolism. During exercise we increase demands on our muscles, temporarily damaging them in microscopic ways that force them to adapt. This adaptation provides new, stronger and more efficient muscle cells. The mere act of repairing muscle tissue from exercise overload can take 24 to 72 hours after most workouts. Tissue repair requires calories, and new tissue burns calories at a higher rate throughout the day. So relish in the fact that adequate rest is extremely beneficial to reaching your goals.
